One note of caution for California residents: the California DMV has become very strict about registering imported Vespas. They requested the original title transfer document from Vietnam, which proved difficult to obtain. Unfortunately, I wasn’t informed by the DMV that a Surety Bond from an insurance company could resolve the registration issue. I only discovered this solution through advice from another California resident who faced the same challenge with registering their Marella Scooters Vespa. Obtaining a Surety Bond is a simple process, but it was the only viable solution I found. For those in California, I recommend proactively securing the Surety Bond early in the registration process so you can spend more time enjoying your restored Vespa.
